Please Note: This is not a list of all of the potential causes of back pain.
How is back pain evaluated?
A history, assessment and physical examination will help to establish the cause/s of your back pain. Sometimes further imaging (e.g x-rays, ultrasound or MRI) may be required to help with the diagnosis of your back pain.
What is the treatment for back pain?
Treatment really depends on the cause. If the pain has musculo-skeletal origins, a conservative approach of some treatment from a health professional such as a chiropractor, osteopath or acupuncturist may produce the best results. This treatment may include joint manipulation or mobilisation, muscles work or exercises prescription.
If pain is persistent, recurrent or accompanied with any other serious signs or symptoms, apart from seeking treatment above, you may also wish to consult your local GP who may - provide further assessment, or prescribe medication/s (as a course of therapy), give advice or recommend a specialists opinion.
